You’re 39 weeks pregnant and you are really hoping to give birth on time so that you can finally hold your baby—not to mention, get your figure back. Or maybe you’re already a couple days, or even weeks, past due. If you’re ready to move on to the next phase of your life, then maybe it’s time to try inducing labor. While there are drugs for this, they are not entirely safe and a lot of women don’t want to risk their health or their baby’s. Is there any other way you can induce labor naturally? Are there home remedies to induce labor?

If you want to induce labor at home, there are a wide variety of activities you can try. There are foods and herbs which are believed to induce labor. Many women say that pineapple helped them to go into labor, or spicy food, ginger root, balsamic vinegar, or eggplant. Some herbs which you can try are black cohosh to induce contractions and blue cohosh to control them. You can also make tea from cumin or red raspberry leaf. Raspberry leaf is an herb which helps women with menstrual pain but is also believed to help with inducing labor, and even introduce some additional nutrition into mother’s milk.

If you want to try something active, you can exercise to induce labor. Light walking is considered a reliable method, as are squatting exercises or sexual intercourse. Sexual intercourse releases Oxytocin into your body, which can stimulate contractions. Eating pineapple has a similar effect on your Oxytocin production owing to an enzyme it contains called bromelain.

One of the most well known home remedies to induce labor is acupressure. Acupressure is a system of Chinese medicine which consists of pressure applied to strategic points called meridians throughout your body. These meridians are energy centers. By regulating and improving the proper flow of energy through these centers, your energy field is cleansed and healed. Since physical problems often find their origin in energy issues, acupressure can correct whatever it causing your labor to delay.

Acupressure is a home remedy since you can do it yourself with an instruction manual. Your partner can also give you acupressure. If you want to be sure that you’re doing it absolutely right though you may want to consider visiting a professional acupressure office and having it done for you. Proper acupressure can result in labor within 48 hours.

Each of these methods can be enough on its own for some women. For many though it is a combination of these techniques which successfully leads to the onset of labor. If you are going to try using any herbs, it is best that you talk first to your doctor. Overdosing on these herbs can cause major physical problems for you and your baby, so it is critical you use them correctly. A method like acupressure is gentle and safe and can work great for just about any woman who wants to bring on labor.
