When you decided to become a mother, you probably were very excited your first few months of pregnancy! Even though this is a very important event in your life, after nine months, you may well be feeling the exhaustion of your pregnancy. You probably are even more excited to finally meet your new son or daughter. If you feel ready to induce labor and you are at the end of your term (39 weeks), then you can try some natural ways to induce labor.

One method to induce labor is to use pineapple.

To use this method, you just need to eat pineapple as usual. Pineapple contains bromelain, which is an enzyme that can mimic the effects of a prostaglandin, ripening the cervix and causing it to contract. Canned pineapple doesn’t contain bromelain, so you’ll need to go with fresh pineapple to get this effect. Some people report that drinking pineapple juice has the same effect. There is a wide range which determines how soon the pineapple induces labor. Some women say it took several weeks, others as little as 48 hours. Some women report that they experienced immediate contractions the moment they ate the pineapple.

Since the impact of the pineapple can vary so much, you should be cautious at first. It may take very little pineapple to make you go into labor. If you don’t notice much effect, you can take more. Some women ate half a pineapple to go into labor; others drank the juice for weeks. But some women had contractions from barely a bite making this an interesting thing you find out while reading about how to induce labor.

If pineapple helps but isn’t enough, there are other things you can do to accelerate the process. Herbs you can take to induce labor include raspberry leaf, cumin, ginger root and black cohosh. You may also attempt to exercise to induce contractions using either walking, squatting, or exercises with stairs. Sexual intercourse is another type of exercise which has the additional benefit of releasing Oxytocin into your body. Oxytocin can make your cervix contract.

One of the most effective methods to naturally and safely induce labor is to use acupressure. Acupressure involves gently applying pressure to points on your body which correspond to energy centers called meridians. This removes energy blocks and improves the flow of energy. Many women have gone into labor only 48 hours after acupressure. Acupressure can be performed professionally, or you can choose to try to do it yourself at home with instructions. If you need to, you can ask your partner to help you out.

Pineapple is a great way to induce labor, but if you’re among the women it has a limited effect on, you can try combining eating pineapple with another method like acupressure. No matter what you decide to go with, you should take it easy. The more you stress out and the harder you think it will be to go into labor, the harder it will actually be. By relaxing, you tell your body that you’re ready to go into labor and meet your new baby.
